4 LAST WEEK AS RECALLED BY RACHAEL INGS 4 After a bit of research, I came to realise that October is a very busy month, for it s National safe work month, mental health month, Walktober and even Dogtober. I think it s fair to say that Rotary should be added to the list; just check out our calendar of events, or even just this upcoming weekend! President John Brown welcomed Rotarians and guests for another evening. The grumpy, old Serj led the toast before fellowship and a protein packed meal were enjoyed. PP David James invited everyone to a movie screening (this weekend) on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, something which is close at heart for a number of Ryde Rotarians. Ella Hens spoke of how she s had a change of subjects to now include extension maths. On the weekend, Ella went with Grace Moyo and Ayesha Jadhwani to the Diwali Festival, where they each received Henna tattoos; fake tattoos PDG John Dodd, don t worry! Ella then said farewell to Kathryn Dodd at the airport with the Dodd cohort, ahead of Kathryn s new Japanese adventure. John Brown thanked all BBQ-ers for their efforts and asked for some help for the next two BBQs (one this weekend). PP Geoff Brennan donned his Foundation hat after personally Centurion-stickering Ron Taffa s badge. Geoff thanked Ron for his donation before encouraging everyone to fill their tubes with gold by November. John JD Dodd invited all to the Rotary Foundation Dinner on November 20th. This will be everybody s chance to join in District fellowship, give back to the Rotary Foundation and listen to guest speaker Jennifer Jones, an influential lady who is changing the face of Rotary. Continuing his incredibly brief announcement, John asked everyone to consider attending the Days for Girls movie night (this weekend). In case you re left with nothing else to do, there is a Days for Girls workshop and graffiti removal (this weekend)! PP Stephen Mr Membership Thorp brought Margaret McGregor to the stage for her induction in to the Ryde Rotary clan. President John read to the Club the words of her induction, as Margaret beamed with joy and Stephen mostly behaved. John then presented Margaret her badge, with the classification of horology, before many photos were taken. I know I ll take the time to ask our newest Ryde Rotarian what exactly her vocation means!

5 LAST WEEK AS RECALLED BY RACHAEL INGS 5 Ayesha drew the winning ticket and claimed a top-notch South Australian red. The Serj then unleashed fines across the room. The more experienced members of the Club were fined for exchange student Lucille s birthday, before Ian Hendo Henderson and PP Bob Carroll were charged for creating paper planes. A phone tax was given to the Pres whilst no one was spared for attempting to silence the Serj. PE Bob Kaye-Smith was fined for attempting to become religious to avoid hard work whilst Kieran Joel was fined for looking fine. It was then that our President was fined for his confusion over our badges. Although we Rotarians do have magic powers, our Rotary badges can t quite be used as passports to get us into any country unfortunately. Earlier silencing attempts were unsuccessful, as was an attempt by Geoff to knee the Serj in the ribs; he was fined accordingly. PP Victoria Goeul fined her table as she avoided the noisy fine, before John Dodd charged PP Adrian Hallett for introducing Janelle Dodd to ebay material auctions. Adrian thanked the Rydalmere BBQ crew, who raised $1430 last weekend. Victoria then introduced our guest speaker, Amy Pattra, on the topic of My Autism Journey. Since diagnosis at the age of three, Amy s older brother, Craig, has been living with severe autism. Now 37, he very rarely vocally communicates and doesn t share the same relationship with Amy that other siblings are fortunate to share. Everyone was glued to Amy and the screen, as she shared with the Club a touching story of her life, growing up with a severely autistic brother. Geoff then thanked Amy and John Dodd for their presentations, before we all joined in singing the National Anthem, led beautifully by Bernadette Horrell.

Dunn Bill Payne Bob Carroll David Johnston RYDE S BUSY WEEKEND It has been a crazy week for Ryde Rotarians, with a whole host of projects and events to take part in. Our intrepid chefs held another very successful barbecue at Rydalmere Bunnings on Saturday, with close to our highest number of satisfied customers yet. Later that day, our partner organisation, the Ryde Days for Girls team, held a very successful movie night fundraiser with delicious food and entertainment. All were treated to blockbuster DC s Wonder Woman. The following morning, the work was not yet done, with a crew of Ryde Rotarians cleaning up the streets at Grafitti Removal. On Monday, our ever diligent barbecuers will be back in action at Artarmon Bunnings. I think we all need some rest! Perhaps a weekend away?

7 THE ROTARY FOUNDATION DINNER Ryde Rotarians have been great supporters of this annual event of celebration of The Foundation and recognition of top-end donors. It is an inspirational night and a chance to widen our horizons with the mixing of two districts. The keynote speaker is Jennifer Jones who runs a media production company in Ontario and is a past Rotary International director. Jennifer has an international reputation as an exciting and engaging presenter with a powerful message for all Rotarians. Let s support this event on Monday 20 November 2017, Blacktown Workers Club, 6.30pm at $75/person or $70 if we make a table of 10.
