This prize includes three awards. The 2017 Bernard Heidsieck-Centre Pompidou literary prize, which acclaims an author for a recent non-book literary creation, has been awarded to Caroline Bergvall. "As the Extra! Festival opens, with this very first presentation of the Bernard Heidsieck-Centre Pompidou literary prize, I am particularly happy that Caroline Bergvall's work has been acclaimed by the jury, chaired this year by Jean-Jacques Lebel. The power of Caroline Bergvall's poetic and sonic creation comes from her work on languages, which gives her output an incomparable dimension. We are struck by the singularity of her broken, dislocated words and phrasing," says Serge Lasvignes, President of the Centre Pompidou. Caroline Bergvall (b. 1962) is a Franco-Norwegian writer and artist, whose projects take the form of performances, audio and/or visual installations, books, visual works or collaborations with artists from other spheres of creation. Her latest publication, Drift (Nightboat Books, NY, 2014), has been celebrated in an exhibition and a performance. Her latest visual and sonic creations include Public Address (Norrlandsoperan, Umeå, Sweden), Together (keeping it/ losing it/ doing it) (MAMCO, Geneva and RTS Espace 2) and Crop (Tate Modern, London and Khoj, New Delhi). In 2017, she was granted the 2017 Cholmondeley Award for her entire poetic oeuvre.

2 2 The honorary prize acclaiming an author for a remarkable output as a whole goes to John Giorno A major figure in the 1960s New York art and literary scene and the Beat Generation, John Giorno (b. 1936) made poetry accessible to everyone. With his "poem paintings", he brought poetry down into the streets of New York. In 1965 he founded the "Giorno Poetry Systems" record label, which published around 40 albums, and in 1968 created "Dial-a-poem": a switchboard that played audio poems. By awarding the honorary prize to John Giorno, the jury acclaims one of the most influential poets of his generation, who has ceaselessly taken his work beyond the form of the book. This prize reflects his powerful friendship with the sound poet Bernard Heidsieck, who worked tirelessly for John Giorno to be recognised in Europe and the USA. The special prize of the Fondazione Bonotto, sponsor of the prize, goes to Lamberto Pignotti. Lamberto Pignotti (b. 1926) began his poetic activity in the early 1940s. In the 1960s he devised and theorised the first forms of "technological" and "visual" poetry, editing an initial anthology in He took part in the activities of "Gruppo 63" and co-founded "Gruppo 70". His work as an artist has developed through the comparison of signs and codes from various origins: linguistic, visual, auditory, gustatory, olfactory, tactile, behavioural and performative. In awarding Lamberto Pignotti its special prize in the Bernard Heidsieck-Centre Pompidou literary prize, the Fondazione Bonotto acclaims the work of a pioneer in sound and visual poetry, who now receives a residency and a tapestry based on a text-image collage, produced by Bonotto SPA. "I would like to thank the jury for this highly meaningful prize. I feel extremely honoured to have been awarded the Fondazione Bonotto special prize not only, of course, from a strictly personal point of view, but also because in the international realm of visual poetry, my work and artistic identity are bound up with this movement dedicated to moving beyond the book: a movement not yet fully recognised." FESTIVAL DES LITTÉRATURES HORS DU LIVRE 6 TO 10 SEPTEMBER 2017 PRIX LITTÉRAIRE BERNARD HEIDSIECK - CENTRE POMPIDOU 6 SEPTEMBER 2017 PRIZES AWARDED AT THE FESTIVAL OPENING The Centre Pompidou is participating in the new literary season in 2017 with the creation of a festival entitled Extra!, celebrating "Littératures Hors du Livre" (non-book literature), and a new literature prize funded by the Fondazione Bonotto. In the 20 th century, literary avant-gardes from the Dada movement to the poet Bernard Heidsieck sought to escape the constraints of the book, and experimented with new forms of poetry, including "textsound", visual and bruitist pieces. In 1977, the Centre Pompidou began to welcome and support what Bernard Heidsieck described as "poésie debout" (standing poetry) and "hors livre" (non-book) literature. Extra! celebrates these different forms with various events. On the menu: performances by writers including Emmanuelle Pireyre, Laura Vazquez, Arno Calleja and Hugues Jallon; shows with the actor Laurent Poitrenaux and mistress of ceremonies Catherine Robbe-Grillet; a showcase with the rapper Elom20ce, and theoretical conversations proposed by the Lionel Ruffel University at the initiative of Radio Brouhaha, with guests including Elitza Gueorguieva, Roger Chartier and François Bon, where the turbulent history of recent literature will be explored in three sections.

CREATION OF THE BERNARD HEIDSIECK-CENTRE POMPIDOU LITERARY PRIZE The Centre Pompidou is creating the Prix Bernard Heidsieck-Centre Pompidou, the first prize to acclaim the best authors and works in this enlarged literary field. It is named after Bernard Heidsieck ( ) in tribute to the poet described as the "Goncourt of sound poetry and non-book literature". This major figure in French poetry of the latter half of the 20 th century produced a globally-acclaimed literary output, rapidly moving away from the book to explore sound and visual forms: "poem scores", audio poems and so on. This international prize funded by the Fondazione Bonotto will be awarded when the festival opens at the Centre Pompidou, at 8.00 p.m. on 6 September, by a jury* of figures representing non-book literature. Also linked with Extra!, the BPI information library is linking up with the new literary season with its "Roman en scène 40 Ans/40 romans" (Forty years of novels). To celebrate the Centre's 40 th anniversary, the BPI is asking 40 well-known figures to comment on 40 literary masterpieces published during this period. The result is an overview of contemporary Romanesque creation, ranging from Georges Perec's "La vie mode d emploi" to Tanguy Viel's "Article 353 du code penal". Saturday 16 September, 12 noon to p.m., in Forum -1 at the Centre Pompidou. *The jury, currently being assembled, will be chaired by the artist Jean-Jacques Lebel.
