If you re looking for a full on party atmosphere head to Bigg Market, The Gate Complex or Quayside for revellers in fancy dress, cheesy tunes and an allout good time! Alternatively if ultra-chic is more your thing head to the Central Station area referred to as the Diamond Strip for trendy bars, opulent clubs and glitterati hedonists dressed to impress. There are clubs and bars to suit all ages. Here are some of the best, in our opinion, of our (very) tried and (very) tested Newcastle venues. BIGG MARKET & THE GATE COMPLEX 1. Sam Jacks Unit G11 The Gate Complex NE1 5TG Tel: Sam Jacks is a full on party bar complete with Raging Rodeo Bull, Podium Dancers and a Dentist Chair! 2. Tiger Tiger The Gate Complex NE1 5RE Tel: Set over three floors, with six bars a restaurant and lively club, Tiger Tiger manages to pull off the trick of being huge yet intimate thanks to its many nooks and crannies.

LQ 49 New Bridge Street West NE1 8AN Tel: LQ provides and un-rivalled clubbing experience in the heart of Newcastle...the party capital of the UK! LQ is Newcastle's ONLY superclub with three rooms and a capcity of over 2,500! 5. Flares 33 Mosley Street NE1 1YF Tel: Nights out in Newcastle Upon Tyne do not get groovier than the permanent party at Flares, the sensational 70s bar and disco famed for making those good times roll. 6. Bijoux 36 Mosley Street NE1 1DF Tel: / A petite and pretty boudoir-style bar with gold twisted-stemmed lampshades and crescent-shaped banquettes strewn with shot-silk pink cushions. The Quilted Camel 36 Sandhill NE1 3JF Tel: The new-look Quilted Camel is styled like a theatrical boudoir with a shocking pink, black and cerise colour scheme and black crystal chandeliers.

The Quayside 35 The Close NE1 3RN Tel: Popular pub set in an excellent position in a historical area of the Quayside, overlooking the River Tyne. There is a large outside seating area at the front which affords a good view of the river and is always busy on a hot day. 10. Red House 32 Sandhill NE1 3JF Tel: A cosy pub, offering a traditional and friendly environment. 11. Riverside Neptune House NE1 3RQ Tel: On a weekend the space doubles as a celebrated Club Space for Newcastle s nightlife till late with state of the art Funktion One Sound, LED Video Wall & two rooms of the city s finest resident DJ s. Florita s Miami Bar & Tropical Garden Collingwood street Tel: A chic and stylish bar with a tropical Miami theme - here you can enjoy a vast array of mouth-watering tropical cocktails while listening to some of the cities hottest DJs. Madame Koos 36 Collingwood Street Tel: A great venue with a hidden bar and sneaky disco in the basement. Please note this venue accepts minimal fancy dress. 15. Perdu 20 Collingwood Street Tel: A chic bar with as much substance as it has style and it is easy to see why Perdu was named the city s coolest bar by the Sunday Mirror. Expect large queues, this is a very popular venue. Please note this venue does not accept fancy dress. 16. Alvinos 88 Pilgrim Street NE1 6SG Tel: A funky bar spread across two floors complete with balcony. 17. Hoochie Coochie 54 Pilgrim Street NE1 6SF Tel: Funk, Soul, Rare Grooves, Boogie, inspirational Disco, Jazzy vibes and much, much more. Hoochie Coochie is a great new bar playing the coolest black music! 18. The Head of Steam 2 Neville Street NE1 5EN Tel: Split over two levels, this fabulous pub stocks a wide range of European beers and lagers. Live music downstairs and a relaxed bar atmosphere upstairs. 19. Digital (Nightclub) Times Square NE1 4EP Tel: With three rooms and one of the best sound systems you'll ever encounter. You can hear anything and everything here from the last 40 years with the one criteria being it has to rock, groove or funk.

Barluga 35 Grey Street NE1 6EE Tel: 0191 230 2306 As plush as they come, Barluga is a champagne/caviar bar and one of the places to be seen in.

Revolution 40 Collingwood Street Tel: A luxurious bank conversion with original 30ft ceilings, marble pillars and classic wood features with a great reputation for fantastic music, a great atmosphere. 21. Tokyo 17 Westgate Road NE1 1SE Tel: All candles and chandeliers, Tokyo is a stylish addition to Newcastle Gateshead's classy bar circuit, exuding a chic air. 22. Barluga 35 Grey Street NE1 6EE Tel: As plush as they come, Barluga is a champagne/caviar bar and one of the places to be seen in. Its split over two levels and the decor is all warm Autumnal colours with plenty of seating. Please note this venue does not accept fancy dress. 23. The Union Rooms 48 Westgate Road NE1 1TT Tel: One of the J.D.Wetherspoon's chain of pubs, The Union Rooms is situated in one of the grandest buildings in Newcastle. This large establishment has numerous different bars set over two floors and has bags of character. 24. The Long Bar 39/47 Westgate Road NE1 5SG Tel: Taking its name from the bar frequented by Michael Caine in the classic film 'Get Carter', The Long Bar is indeed long and narrow. However it has a comfortable lounge-like feel and attracts a mix of clientele.

The Centurion Central Station Neville Street NE1 5DG Tel: Voted 'Newcastle's most impressive watering hole' by the Observer, the Centurion is a former first class passenger lounge welcoming an eclectic clientele. There are no strangers in the Centurion Bar, only friends you haven't met yet. Please note this venue does not accept fancy dress. 26. The Empress 1 The Side NE1 1PR Tel: The newest and most homely bar to hit Newcastle's infamous Diamond Strip - the iconic bar has been restored back to its former glory with a modern and unique designer touch.
