You will need the following for the workshop: A set of make up brushes; We recommend you have some make-up to practice at home; To print this document and bring to every class; Pen/writing pad/course folder; Mascara (Black and brown); Eye pencil (Black and brown); Lip liner (nude and red); Neutral and red lipstick; False lashes, individual & strip and fantasy lashes available from good chemists; Tweezers; Duo eyelash glue (from Make Up Forever); Digital camera, to record your work as your progress through the course (optional); Small plastic bowl for cleanse; Facial Cleansing sponges (usually orange or yellow available from chemists); Printed face charts (we will give you on your first day to photocopy) 2. Kits Participants do not have to buy a kit but have been advised that it could help to have enough make up to carry out practical. You can also purchase a PRO eyes lips and cheeks palette from us for only 25 (subject to availability) on your first day. You will require a good set of make-up brushes. You can purchase brushes from any supplier (no discounts available for non-professional workshop) or inexpensive and high week Make up workshop

4 Class 1 Induction as per checklist followed by: 1.1. Most common contra-indications are: Cold sores, Bruises, Cuts, Swellings, Eczema, Sun burn, recent facial operations, Scar tissue, Eye infections whether contagious or not, Headaches, Migraines, Fever, Infectious or contagious diseases, Hypersensitive skin, Trapped nerves, Prescribed medication week Make up workshop

6 Check your own skin, eyes. Any contraindications? 1.2. Skin type and characteristics Soon we will be prepping the skin and carrying outs the base but to do so you need to know what your skin type is. 8 Pre base and base for your skin type Skin care for your skin type. This is for you to carry out at home from now on. We only have cleansing products available for all skin types. Normal Combination Dry Dehydrated To care for normal skin you should start with a gentle facial wash. Massaging it into your face will gently cleanse your skin and enhance your complexion. Cool your skin with a refreshing toner. To finish dot moisturiser onto your skin and massage it with your fingers in light upward strokes. Normal skin requires the same attention as any other skin type If you have combination skin use a gentle alcohol free facial wash to cleanse your skin. This will keep the oily areas clean to prevent blackheads. In the evening use a cream cleanser to soothe your dry areas. This will keep a balance between excess dryness and excess oiliness. Use a specialist toner for your oily areas and a mild skin freshener for the dry areas. Use moisturiser on your whole face, but make sure you concentrate on your drier areas especially at night. For dry skin use a creamy cleanser to melt away dirt and keep skin clean and fresh. Leave it on your skin before sweeping it away with cotton wool. Splash water onto your face after cleansing to refresh your skin and rinse away excess cleanser. Use a thick specialist cream moisturiser to seal in as much moisture as possible. If you have dehydrated skin do not use facial washes or soap; instead use a light, hypoallergenic cleansing lotion. Use a good specialist moisturiser to strengthen your skin and provide a barrier against irritants. Make sure you use an unperfumed moisturiser so as not to irritate your skin. Now we will teach you how to properly cleanse and prep the skin The double cleanse The tutor will now demonstrate how to carry out the double cleanse. 9 Your notes related to how to carry out a double cleanse: Why use a primer? Primer/concealer notes: You might have come across primers/ concealer of different shades. Here is what they are for: Green: Used to neutralize red tones on the skin. Use this for covering blemishes, zits, red blotches, rosacea, port-wine stains Minimizes Redness week Make up workshop

10 Lavender: Used to normalize yellow-coloured skin imperfections such as sallow complexions and yellow bruises. It can also help conceal very dark under-eye circles and dark spots on bronze skin tones. Brightens Dull or Sallow Skin Yellow: Also known as Apricot in colour, used to conceal bluish bruises, under-eye circles and mild red tones on the face. Warms skin & counteracts discoloration. Set up your work area and fill your bowl with warm water from one of the tabs in the toilets. 11 - Your skin tone it must match it; - The coverage you are looking for. To make sure you get the correct shade of foundation for your skin, you should try it either on your jaw line or your collar bone. It is very hard to get a shade that exactly matches your shade. Make up artists for instance match different shades to attain the correct shade for the person. It should consider having a couple of shades that you can match to your own shade. Types of foundations: Liquids High water to oil ratio, suitable for oily skin, light coverage Gels Non greasy, jelly-like liquids, suitable for smooth, black and clear skins, gives a natural tanned look to lighter, black and clear skins Creams Higher oil to water ratio, with powder and humectant(a humectant is a substance used primarily in foods and cosmetic products to help retain moisture), thicker and heavier, suitable for dry and mature skins. Needs setting with loose powder Mousses Lighter cover, Comes in aerosol or dispensers Lighter cover, Comes in aerosol or dispenser Blocks/Compacts/Cakes Compressed cream and powder, medium to heavy coverage. Not suitable for dry skin. All-in-one Creams with powder. Not suitable for dry or sensitive. Matt finish sensitive. Matt finish Light reflecting Ideal for mature skin, eyelids and lips Matt High water ratio, suitable for oily and combination Tutor demo: Selecting and applying foundation The tutor will now demonstrate how to conceal imperfections. Tutor demo: concealer covering all types of concealers and the best consistency for different facial areas. Concealer guide Liquid: liquid concealers are formulated for use around the eyes so they re usually said to be a good choice to camouflage those bad undereye circles. Some offer good consistency and coverage in other facial areas but it works better for those with dry skin. A note about Touche Eclat The cult Yves Saint Laurent's Touche Eclat concealer week Make up workshop

12 which sells more than any other similar product (one is sold every 20 seconds around the world) is more of an illuminator than a concealer. Applying it correctly and for its correct use (it is meant to "illuminate"), works brilliantly. Dot just below the brow and under the eyes, along the nose and under the lip - anywhere the face has shadows. Cream: Cream concealers are best used to conceal flows such as spots, broken veins, etc. The consistency tends to be too thick to apply around the eyes. 13 Set up your work area and cleanse, prep your skin. PRACTICAL WORK From the make up we have available for practical work, mix foundation until you have just the correct shade for you. Once the tutor has finished the lesson and you have established your facial features, you will go back to your make up area and carry out the contouring/highlighting of your face taking your facial features into consideration Facial features & contouring Oval face shape is considered the perfect shape because of its symmetry. For that reason, we correct shapes based on the oval face shape, to change the face shape to as close to an oval shape as possible week Make up workshop

17 Nose shape My nose shape is. Please choose the one that is the closest match to your nose shape Small nose Celebrity nose: Lilly Allen, Cheryl Cole Broad nose Celebrity nose: Lady Gaga, Rhianna Narrow pointed nose Celebrity nose: Paris Hilton, Lyndsay Lohan Long nose Celebrity nose: Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie Apply highlight down the centre of the nose, avoiding the sides. Smooth and blend down the centre. Slim down a broad nose with a foundation that is one shade darker than your natural skin tone. Sweep along the sides of the nose with a firm makeup brush. Stroke a lighter shade of foundation down the bridge of the nose. Blend well. Sweep a small amount of powder or concealer (slightly darker than your natural skin tone) down the centre of your nose. Then use a lighter shade on the sides of your nose and nostrils. Apply a foundation or concealer that is slightly darker than your natural skin tone onto the tip, between and around the nostrils. 18 Eye shape My eye shape is. The eye is a perfect almond shape, raised up lightly at the outer corner. Protruding/prominent eyes These eyes which set forward in the face tend to dominate the facial features. 22 Practice what you have learnt in the class today on yourself and perhaps a friend/sister with different facial features HOME WORK You will need to photocopy your face chart (2-3 copies) and bring to the next class You will need individual fake lashes for next week 1.5. in-depth material for your reference (not covered in class) Skin Types and Characteristics in more detail White skin Fair in colour, often with Ephelides (freckles) and accompanied by red, blonde or brown hair and green/blue eyes. It is more sensitive to UV rays, and external stimuli, ages more quickly and shows vascular disorder. Mixed skin A combination of skin types. The shades and sensitivities will vary greatly depending on the mix Black Skin Produces a larger amount of melanin which determines the skin colour and depth. Black skin has greater protection from UV rays and tends to be more supple with delayed ageing effects. It is however more susceptible to stimuli such as rashes or inflammations which can leave dark marks and scarring on the skin. It is also more prone to keloid scarring. The skin is generally oily, but when it becomes dry the skin gives off a scaly ashen appearance. Asian skin Predominantly yellow in tone with a sallow tinge. It is often oily but smooth and evenly coloured. Asian skin is more prone to hyper pigmentation from operation scars and lesions so should be treated with care. It also ages very well and does not line or wrinkle in the same way as white skin. Mature Skin With age the skin loses firmness, elasticity and appears thinner. This change in texture may cause appearance of fine lines, and less definition to the contours of the face. The skin becomes dry as the sebaceous glands become less active. As the skin becomes thinner, becoming almost transparent in some areas such as around the eyes small capillaries show through the skin more commonly on cheeks and nose area Waste products are removed less quickly and this leads to puffiness of the skin in particular around the eye area. 23 appear on the surface of the skin such as lentigo ( small flat or raised brown spots liver spots). Oily Skin May appear sallow and dull or shiny and hard with uneven texture and enlarged pores mainly on the T-zone, with comedones (black heads), papules (small and flat) and pustules (Small, raised and filled with puss) Due to an over-secretion of the sebaceous glands often during adolescence and frequently affected by the menstrual cycle, it can occur anytime in different areas of the face and body. Unblocking pores through specialised cleansing routines is recommended but using harsh products can dehydrate the skin Combination Skin This can be a combination of two skin types although there is generally a central oily t-zone with the cheeks and neck showing normal or dry skin. Dry Skin Appears pale and thin, with fine lines, no visible pores, often with broken capillaries and flakiness and may feel and look tight due to lack of moisture in skin. It can appear at any age although is more commonly associated with middle age. Can be genetic, caused by internal and external stimuli. It is imperative that the moisture balance is corrected Dehydrated- Superficial dry skin, fine lines and wrinkles, it is due to the body and skin s tissues lacking water. Maybe caused by diet, lifestyle, general health, skin care regime or living and working environments having low humidity, high central heating or air conditioning. Very easily gotten rid of with 1-2 litres of water drunk a day, plenty of fruit and veg and a good water based cleanser, toner and moisturiser. Sensitive- Appears dry with high colour around cheeks and nose with dilated capillaries. Easy stimulated, becomes red and blotchy but responds quickly to treatment. Avoid alcohol, spicy food and shell fish as these increase occurrences and longevity. 24 Class 2 Tutor will Recap on last lesson 2.1. Introduction to colour theory The tutor will explain how colours contrast and how to refer to the colour wheel The colour wheel is a great ally when selecting colours that compliment your colouring. To make your eye colour pop, you should use a colour that contrasts with your own. To intensify the colour of your eyes, using the same colour as your eyes but a different shade will do just that week Make up workshop

25 Brown eyes Green/hazel Eyes Blue Eyes Brown eyes can get away with wearing almost any colour of eyeshadow. However either green, blue or pink eyeshadow will contrast beautifully. if the eyes have gold flecks an eyeshadow that has a gold shimmer to it will also look stunning. Brown eyes can even pull-off wearing brown eyeshadow, but be careful because certain tones can look muddy against brown eyes. In order to get green eyes to pop, various purple shades work well. The contrast in colour to will make them seem more dramatic. For a more natural look, try warmer mocha brown shades or warm colours with slight orange undertones. Basic eyeshadow colours for green eyes would be earth tones with slight hints of gold, taupe colors, mocha browns, and lavender-purple shades. Earth tones, such as browns with a slight purple base, taupe, and slate coloured greys. Rose coloured eyeshadow is also a good option. 26 Set up your work area and: Practice a day look on yourself using the colour wheel and colours to suit you PRACTICAL WORK Now the tutor will pair up participants so you can learn how to apply make up on someone else to suit their colouring (your friends will be thankful!) 27 Now we are going to eestablish your undertone: PRACTICAL WORK Look at the underside of your arm. If your veins appear bluish you are cool toned, if they appear greenish you are warm toned. My undertone is: 1. Why is this important? 31 Design a make up look using a copy of the face chart you have received PRACTICAL WORK Colouring pencils are available ask the tutor if you want to use colouring pencils instead of make up 2.3. Bridal make-up Tutor demo bridal make up look, techniques, blending, products and individual fake lashes. Evening make up The tutor will demo smokey eyes followed by the application of strip fake lashes Take notes from the tutor demo: Some tricks of the trade: For more dramatic highlighting under the brows you can use a pigment. MAC Vanilla pigment is popular To attain a polished look make sure you line inner corner of the eyes as well week Make up workshop

34 To give a wet open eyed look you should dab a tiny amount of pigment in the very middle of the eye socket and blend around the edges by patting gently (once the full look is finished) Different smokey eyes looks: You can choose the shape you want to create week Make up workshop

35 Use this diagram for your reference. Smokey eyes is a practical subject. The only way to perfect your skills is by practicing on yourself and others. Carry out a smokey eye look on yourself and apply fake lashes (strip) PRACTICAL WORK The tutor will demo red/dark lips: defining and painting Some tricks of the trade: Before applying red lipstick, in fact at the start of the make up application, apply a dab of 8 hour cream or Vaseline to the lips. Wipe it off gently before doing the lips. This will soften lips and give a better finish You can conceal your lips using concealer and draw the line that you want/that suits you You can correct mistakes around the lips and get a well defined line using your foundation brush and some concealer week Make up workshop

36 Line the lips and paint lips with the liner before applying lipstick. Apply the lipstick, blot, apply again and line the edges after tidying up any edges for a polished look Highlight the cupid bowl with either a highlighter or vanilla lip line to make lips appear fuller You can also highlight the very middle of lips with highlighter.
