2 2 ABOUT US ABOUT US 3 In 53 years of activity Accademia Costume & Moda has developed a strong relationship with the fashion and entertainment industry in order to design academic programmes aimed at providing an all-round educational experience with the final objective of career placement and development. Today some of the most important professionals in the world, Creative Directors, Illustrators, Head Designers, Academy Award and David di Donatello winners, are alumni of our academy and continue to collaborate with us in order to keep a contemporary approach while defending and maximising our cultural experience, DNA of Accademia Costume & Moda, and of any job linked to creativity. Modateca Deanna, International Centre for Fashion Documentation, gathers and promotes the identity of Knitwear Factory Miss Deanna, founded by Deanna Ferretti back in 1950, merging passion, technology and innovation. Miss Deanna has collaborated with some of the most important fashion designers in the world, producing and distributing at an international level creative knitwear collections. The skills in craftsmanship and the continuous research, has allowed the Modateca to become a true worship space for the development of contemporary knitwear collections. 3 4 4 GOOD REASONS 4 GOOD REASONS ACCREDITATION ROME The 1st Level Master's programme is accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) and is worth 60 ECTS. The experience of studying in Rome can be truly unique and very personal. The inspiration that an individual can draw from Rome's culture, history and beauty are unquestionable. In this sense, it can not be a coincidence that important companies such as BVLGARI, GUCCI, FENDI and VALENTINO as well as important Costume Makers are born in Rome or have chosen the Eternal City as their creative hub. Our students, after having absorbed Rome's heritage, work and travel globally enriched with this unique atmosphere. CAREERS & PLACEMENT 4 The two-way flow of information between our Careers & Placement office and Accademia's fashion and entertainment industry contacts, allows a virtuous feedback mechanism that feeds into the planning process of our academic programmes. This allows Accademia and its students to maintain a contemporary and updated positioning both academically as well as from an industry need perspective. 2 SAN MARTINO IN RIO San Martino in Rio is the heart of the Italian Knitwear district. A territory rich of history, culture and wine & food tradition located in a very strategic position thanks to the recent Mediopadana Station designed by famous architect Santiago Calatrava that connects Reggio Emilia to all the main cities in Italy. To be able to study in the Emilia Romagna region means to enter in contact with the main excellences of Italian manufacturing, personally experimenting the know-how and innovation that are true characteristics of the craftsmanship laboratories and factories that work and develop knitwear products for the most prestigious brands of the global luxury industry.

4 6 DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION 7 Adrien Yakimov Roberts Coming from North Wales, UK, Adrien moved to London in the early 1980s to study at the prestigious St. Martin s School of Art (now known as Central St. Martin s). The illustrative element of designing was natural to Adrien therefore was delighted to take up the opportunity to study Fashion Illustration at Parson s School of Design in New York. Working for Paul Smith in one of his first stores, he decided to continue his studies in menswear area of fashion at the Royal College of Art of London. Adrien worked for many menswear brands, principally in Italy, before setting up his own business under his own name. After gaining experience at teaching at different levels at some of the top fashion schools Adrien eventually took the role of Head of Design at London College of Fashion, participating in a teaching learning project with University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Moving up to the role of Programme Leader Fashion Design, Enterprise & Innovation at University of the Creative Arts, UK, gave Adrien the first experience in curriculum development and validation processes. During this time Adrien was elected to the Executive Committee of Graduate Fashion Week London, still a member of the committee today Adrien has worked with alongside many UK fashion university leaders in creating an internationally renowned event. When offered the opportunity to move back to Italy for Istituto Marangoni, in Milan as Group Director of Education to develop and validate courses with Manchester Metropolitan University, Adrien saw this as the chance to develop his skills further whilst returning back to Italy which he had always considered his home. Adrien is the Director of Education of Accademia Costume & Moda in Rome since 2014, in order to implement the internationalization of the academy and support the Italian fashion industry through education.

5 8 MASTER'S DIRECTOR 9 Sonia Veroni Grown up breathing fashion in the family company, she has developed since a very young age, a passion and competence linked to the creation of knitwear collections for some of the most important Italian and international designers. After having graduated and after an experience at Miss Deanna, she moves to New York from 1997 and 2002 working as Director of Creative Services for Badger & Partners, marketing, advertising and communication agency. In 2003 she returns to Italy and works as a stylist for different fashion brands and for the music industry, curating among the many projects also the music videos for famous rock star Vasco Rossi. From 2004 to 2011 she is Artistic Director for the Knitwear brand GOTHA. Between 2008 and 2010 she is Professor for Fashion Materials at IUAV, in Venice. In 2005 she is the founder of Modateca Deanna, International Centre for Fashion Documentation, and continues promoting Made in Italy with particular interest in Knitwear Design, through the creation and realization of exhibition projects in Italy and abroad. 7 12 THE MASTER'S PROGRAMME 13 IN COLLABORATION WITH Atsuko Karuizawa - Master's in Creative Knitwear Design, A.Y. 2016/2017 Ph. Efisio Marras COMPANY COLLABORATIONS EDITION 2016/2017: In collaboration and partnership with knitwear sector leaders and some of the most important Made in Italy manufacturing factories, such as yarn makers, print, embroidery and dying laboratories and craft specialists. The Knitwear Designer has to have competence linked to research and analysis, has to know the different trends, so as to interpret through his/her work the identity of a Maison in a contemporary and innovative manner. This Master s course simulates the path of the industry, research of materials and tendencies, the study of new trends, designing & experimentation, technical development up to the final product and its positioning and communication. At the end of the training, students will be able to pursue a professional career in a creative studio, researching trends, developing products or office-tooffice style, and filling various professional roles that exist in the fashion industry, from designers to product managers as well as being capable of designing one's own knitwear brand.

9 16 PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES 17 This full-time Master s in Creative Knitwear Design is aimed at graduates, professionals who want to complete and deepen their cultural and professional knowledge and skills in the fashion industry, from design to implementation and final product. It s a course of intensive theoretical and practical studies, combining design, style & technique, product development as well as artistic and cultural growth. The course aims to instil organizational skills from both a design and operational prospective, essential characteristics for a professional figure able to effectively resolve issues within productive laboratories with understanding of the creative potential and the possibilities for implementation of projects. It is hence fundamental that the professional understands and knows the limits and potential between the creative and production process. The Master s in Creative Knitwear Design will provide students with the conceptual knowledge base and tools necessary to understand new trends in fashion, developing new products, positioning them properly within the knitwear market and moreover experiment and understand the production potential, both at industrial and artisanal level. Laboratories equipped with manual and electronic sewing machines; seminars with industry experts; workshops and individual projects together with many industry projects makes this unique Master s course fascinating, absorbing and concrete. 10 18 TARGET 19 This Master s course is aimed at those who have successfully completed a recognised first degree (typically BA equivalent to Level 6 of EQF-European Qualifications Framework), in a subject area relevant to this course, and wish to study with the aim to seriously focus on a career in creative knitwear design: -- Students who have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in a design discipline or a subject area linked to the Master s Course: YES; -- Humanistic and Liberal Arts degree students who have successfully completed an undergraduate course not linked to the specialist area of the Master s: YES, but the Course Council will evaluate the single application to understand the suitability and level of preparation of the candidate. -- Industry Professionals of the sector and students who have not completed a recognised undergraduate degree, but have completed private courses within the subject area of the Master s course: YES, but will not receive a recognised Master s degree, but rather a certificate of participation. Due to demand and the limited number of places available (to maintain the quality and high level of study), the successful completion of an admission assessment, based on an interview and presentation of a Fashion Portfolio, are required in order to gain access to the course. 11 20 SUBJECT AREAS THEORETICAL AND TECHNICAL AREA TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC AREA TECHNICAL AND OPERATIONAL AREA TECHNICAL AND OPERATIONAL AREA The first part is functional to knowledge and research through cultural modules, and to the acquisition of competences related to fabrics and materials. All of this is preparatory to understanding the market, the identity codes and trends interpretation, acquire drawing and design techniques. THEORETICAL AND TECHNICAL AREA History of Contemporary Knitwear 3D experimental design Study of fabrics, materials and yarns Design Methodology TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC AREA Technical Design Moulage Techniques The second part is fundamental to transform the idea into a project: illustration and technical drawing, graphic rendering and computer design through specific programs, the study of the creative project through competence and knowledge up to the acquisition of a method finalized to the realization of an idea. The third part is linked to the product: the development and the making of a collection and realization of prototypes, with relative production budgeting, components of craftsmanship / industrial processes. Moreover, knowledge of the market, brand positioning, clientele identification. INTERNSHIP 100 HOURS Research internship (tot. 100 hrs) within sector related companies, in line with interests, attitudes and profiles of the students at the end of their educational path. 13 24 PITTI IMMAGINE FILATI During Pitti Immagine Filati 81, a fashion show at the Fortezza da Basso - in the Sala della Ronda gave voice to the personal and Industry Projects by the students of the First Level Master s Degree course in Creative Knitwear Design (A.A 2016/2017). The show-event has been promoted and organized by the Fondazione Pitti Immagine Discovery together with the Accademia Costume & Moda and Modateca Deanna, in collaboration with The Woolmark Company, Max Mara and Avant Toi to light up the new knitwear talents whilst maximizing their expertise and originality. An effective instrument of dialogue between the top sector businesses present at the fair, the buyers and representatives of the style offices of the most prestigious Maisons, the press and young international creatives. The Master s Degree students in Creative Knitwear Design also had the possibility to create Merino wool knitwear outfits with the support of Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia, drawing inspiration from five of the seven themes of The Wool Lab Fall/ Winter 2018/19 - the best selection of wool fabrics and yarns on the market realized by The Woolmark Company. This capsule collections have been showcased during the fashion show and exhibited in a display inside the Zegna Baruffa Lane Borgosesia stand during Pitti Filati. 15 28 MEETINGS & WORKSHOPS 29 Part of the educational experience of our Master s Degrees is the possibility to visit companies, Maisons and manufacturers, discover the archives, attend industry-related trade fairs (for example, PITTI FILATI), and workshops and/or lectures held at Modateca Deanna by important professionals such as: Sara Maino, Fashion Senior Editor Vogue Italia and Vogue Talents; Antonio Marras, artist and fashion designer; Giovanni Cavagna, fashion designer; Filippo Bassoli, knitwear designer; and also at the Accademia Costume & Moda by leading industry professionals. For example among the professionals that shared their ideas and work with our students for AY 2015/2016 were Alessandro Michele, alumnus and Creative Director Gucci, Silvia Venturini Fendi, Menswear and Accessories Creative Director, Fendi, who inaugurated the 2016/2017 academic year with renowned illustrator Stefano Canulli (also alumnus of Accademia Costume & Moda). Moreover, Human Resources (H.R.) and Talent Development managers of companies such as Salvatore Ferragamo, Fendi, LVMH, Dolce e Gabbana and many more come to present and to meet students of Accademia Costume & Moda. 16 30 CAREERS & PLACEMENT 31 Upon completion of the Master's course, the Careers & Placement office of Accademia Costume & Moda, in collaboration with some of the main companies within the fashion industry, seeks to facilitate students to find job opportunities available in the Italian and international markets. The Accademia has a 84% placement ratio because of its educational quality level, reputation in the market place and track record of its student population in terms of attitude and level of preparation. To be interviewed for admission the candidate must request the meeting by writing an to our Orientation and Marketing office: and to b. Once received the application, the Orientation and Marketing office will confirm the date and time of the admission interview with a Course Council member. The interview will take place at Accademia Costume & Moda in Rome or alternatively via Skype. For their admission interview, students are required to prepare: 1. Curriculum Vitae 2. Portfolio 3. Motivational letter Interview results will be communicated within 7 working days. Following a positive interview result, students will receive a formal offer for a place in the Master's together with the relevant documentation necessary to formalise the enrollment procedure. The required documentation will include: 1. Undergraduate certificate / diploma 2. Previous academic curriculum, including exam grades, course and subject description 3. Copy of valid identity document (e.g. Passport) 4. Copy of Fiscal Code (if available) 5. N.3 passport-size photographs 6. Residence permit for non-european Union (non- EU) residents. Upon request, Accademia Costume & Moda will issue the necessary documentation to enable non-eu students to obtain a VISA. Accademia Costume & Moda offers scholarships for its courses. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS The main language of the Master s Course is italian. However, international students will be facilitated by a consecutive translation in english.
