3 Welcome Address by the Ambassador of Italy to the UAE Italy s gold and jewelry sector is a renowned world leader and trend-setter in terms of quality of production, exclusive design and constant product and process innovation. With its almost firms and employees the sector plays a significant contribution to the Italian economy. The manufacturing activity is heavily concentrated in specific clusters and the sector is characterized by the presence of a high number of small and medium size firms very active on international markets. Factors contributing to their success are craftsmen s skills, manufacturing quality and flexibility, unique design and style as well as technological innovation. In order to face increasing competitive pressures, in the last years Italian companies have doubled their efforts to constantly increase products quality and differentiation, strategically shifting their comparative positioning towards the high-end segments of the market. The UAE is actually one of the most prominent markets for the jewelry sector. In 2016, it ranked second after Switzerland in terms of total Italian exports to world markets. Italian firms acknowledge the importance of Dubai as one of the most important international hubs for jewelry sales and luxury goods. More and more Italian jewelry companies are establishing a direct presence on this market to serve as manufacturing and marketing base to reach out other markets in MENA, Africa and Asia. I firmly believe Vicenza Oro Dubai, now at its third edition, taking place from 15 to 18 November 2017, represents a global platform of great importance for jewelry designers, handcrafters and buyers. On this occasion, Italian companies will showcase the very best examples of products and collections that have made them renowned and appreciated among world consumers.
