1 Visual Arts Association The Villages Florida September 2014 PROUD of it s past PREPARED for its future President s thoughts Hello Fellow VAA Members, I hope you ve all had a great summer attending your favorite art groups and creating wonderful, new art work. While you were doing that, your VAA Executive Board was busy compiling your responses to the recent VAA Survey. I cannot overstate the importance of this survey, as your input, comments and wishes have been tantamount in assisting the board in developing the calendar. There are changes coming soon. While some of these changes are minor, they will be evident and hopefully meet with your overall approval. Also, committee chairpersons are planning exciting programs with guest artists, exhibits and venues where you can show your art work. Starting in October, you ll have opportunities to showcase your work in Arts Round The Square, and the Art Bazaar. Please be ready to help if you re called upon. Remember, this is your club, and this is your year. You ve indicated the direction you would like the VAA to take, and your voices have been heard loud and clear. Presently, we have an Executive Board whose sole goal is the advancement of the VAA s Mission Statement. You ll have an opportunity to meet the members of the board in the near future. We want to encourage you, the members, to share any ideas, and concerns, that you may have with any of us. In closing, I would like to thank the board and chairpersons for their work this summer, and for assisting me in my new role as President. I look forward to this working relationship and to meeting many of you throughout the coming year. Hope to see many of you at the September meeting. Sincerely, Frank Zampardi, VAA President frankz.rfz@embarqmail.com Progr am Rob Smith Jo Magram jo@magramws.com We welcome our VAA members back to our monthly meeting on September 19th. Don t miss Rob as he will share in some of Florida s hidden treasures with the help of Swampy. The meeting will be at La Hacienda Recreation Center September 19th at 12:30 for refreshments, with the business meeting at 1:00pm followed by the presentation. We hope you have had a healthy and enjoyable summer and look forward to seeing you all then.

VAA La Galleria Shows: After a nice break this summer, the wheels are starting to turn and my thoughts are turning to the upcoming season of art shows. I hope everyone had a great summer and feels energized and ready to produce new pieces of art for the upcoming year. Angela, Susan and I are responsible for the Spring, Summer, and Winter shows at the La Galleria. Our next show is December 6th. Pre Registration forms will not be ready until October. As always, we will not have a theme. I feel that frees you to pick the art you love and have ready, instead of worrying if you can get a piece finished in time for the show. We are again planning to have an opening reception the afternoon of December 6th. Saturday, September 6th, everyone that NOW has a piece of art hanging at the La Galleria SHOULD PLAN ON BEING THERE BETWEEN 8:30 and 9:30 to PICK IT UP. A new show will be hung that day by the VAL. We want to be sure and be out of their way as soon as possible. So mark your calendar and be there between 8:30 and 9:30. By the time you read this, I will have sent you a few reminders. Pumpkins and scholarship Our Scholarship Year starts with the good news that our 2014 winners have all left for their respective colleges and art programs. They are excited, ready and send special thanks for the gifts, financial aid and genuine support from you our VAA members. Several of our former recipients have touched based during the summer months with updates and art news. They are doing very well, and are eager to return to their degree programs and preparing for art careers. Our work with the young artists of the class of 2015 will start very soon, and outreach and materials are being planned now. Your Scholarship Committee is also starting its new fund raising season early. We are planning an expanded version of The Artistic Pumpkin Project, that was so well received last fall. Painted, decorated and themed Faux Pumpkins will again be available for raffle, and purchase. Starting with our VAA Sept. meeting we will have ( for viewing ) artistically inspired and painted pumpkins based on animals, birds, Halloween Characters and scary stories. We will also be working on elegantly decorated and embellished pumpkins. These will feature seasonal designs, showcased with ribbons, flowers, lace, jewels, beading and presented on elegant chargers. Any of these creations would make wonderful centerpieces for your home or Halloween party, and terrific gifts for grandchildren or friends. If you have an idea for a custom pumpkin, let us know early, and perhaps we can design one for you. Also, if you would like to purchase a faux pumpkin and donate it to us, that would be so appreciated. Michaels Craft Store has many sizes & colors, and has come on board with our project and is supporting us in our efforts. Your Michaels coupons could help with needed material as well. We will have our Halloween creations at VAA Meetings, Arts Around The Square, and of course at the October Arts Bazaar Show & Sale. Please see our Suggestion Box located in this newsletter for items and supplies you might have that could be donated and be helpful to us. If you would like to join a decorating team and help with this project please watch for upcoming announcements, as we are planning some workshops very soon. If you have questions and ideas and or pumpkins please call Helen Poor or Marge McQueston Thank You In advance..and THINK PUMP- KINS!!! Your Scholarship Committee Materials Suggestion Box The following materials/supplies could be used by our Pumpkin Artists. If you have any of these materials let us know or drop them off.as our pumpkins are arriving very soon. If you are not back in the Villages yet, you could also bring them to our September VAA Meeting.
