3 Page 3 The Creative Edge April 2014 by Ken Ronney WANTED NEW NEWSLETTER EDITOR AND NEW PROGRAMS CHAIRPERSON AND NEW WEB MASTER New New New Editor of Program Chair Webmaster The Creative Edge We have three unexpected vacancies in the CAL board of directors. They are listed in the order I received resignation notices. After two years of exceptional work as newsletter editor, Reece Holland is handing in his typewriter. Reece s personal schedule and work requirements have forced him to submit his resignation, and we are going to miss him sorely. The May issue of The Creative Edge will be Reece's final issue. The new editor will have full editorial and artistic control of the newsletter. You will have your choice of software to assemble the newsletter. Training will be available. Without a newsletter editor, The Creative Edge may turn into a one page calendar of events Teri Starkweather, our most recent past President, is going to be relocating to Laguna Beach. She is resigning as both Programs Chair and Webmaster. She has served the club faithfully during a major transition and we will miss her. This relocation will be a big effort and she knows she won t have the time to devote to CAL and do the work required as both Programs Chair and Webmaster. Programs Chair is a very important job, but does not require a lot of time. It needs someone who is familiar with the Southern California art community, and who can make calls to arrange speakers once every three months. Even if you aren t familiar with possible speakers, our board members can give you lots of recommendations.

4 Page 4 The Creative Edge April 2014 President's Message Continued Webmaster by itself is not too difficult either, but takes some regular attention to keep our club s website up to date. Events change, programs change, exhibits change, and the new information needs to replace old. This is a task for someone with good computer skills. The new people in these positions will be members of the CAL board of directors, with significant input into club activities, policies and future direction. If you think you might want to fill any of these positions, let me know and we can discuss all the details. As always, contact me at Kronney@aol.com or by phone at If any of the club members would like to have a monthly or bi-monthly column in this newsletter, please let me know, and we can make it happen. Share your experiences, thoughts or techniques with the membership. If you aren t sure your idea for a regular column is appropriate, contact me and we can discuss, or I can help you fine-tune your concept. As you may have noticed from the prospectus, the exhibit we just installed, Celebrating Women, is a joint effort between our regular members and members of the Women s City Club of Pasadena. To enter, WCCP members joined CAL at a reduced fee, and if their work is accepted by the judge to be hung in the exhibit, they become exhibiting members and do not have to go through any other jurying-in processes. We have a few new long distance members who are exhibiting at this time, too. Since our Open exhibit last summer, where we began to solicit long distance members, we have had about 8 new members join from out of state or northern or central California. Receiving packages from them is not difficult and it allows artists the opportunity to exhibit in venues they normally can t reach. If you have any out-of-town artist friends who would like to participate in CAL exhibits, our upcoming Open exhibit would be the perfect opportunity for them to join us. Please let them know about the exhibit, coming up in June. The prospectus should be in the May newsletter. I m looking forward to seeing everyone at the Celebrating Women opening reception on Saturday, April 19, 2:00 to 5:00 at the Blinn House Beth Summers wishes to express her deep appreciation to the California Art League for the recent card and contribution to the memorial fund for her husband, Richard Summers, at his recent passing.
