It takes a lot to make Charity Fashion Show happen, and we have accomplished a great deal in the last month, none of which would have been possible without the help of countless people, from our artistic t e a m a n d m o d e l s t o g u e s t photographers to boutiques, As the holidays approach, we at Charity Fashion Show would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone whose contributions have made us so successful. This issue of Charity Fashion Show Monthly is dedicated to you, our fans and supporters, and we wish you nothing but the best through the holidays and the new year. We look forward to a continued relationship with you in the future. Where did you find those girls? Charity Fashion Show introduces its 2010 Calendar. You see them every year: pop-up calendar stores filled with puppies and cartoons and cars and girls in bikinis For 2010, skip the pop-up shop. Buy a calendar from Charity Fashion Show, featuring 12 Stanford-student models personifying each month. Even better, all proceeds go towards producing Charity Fashion Show and enabling us to garner a sizable philanthropic donation. The CFS 2010 Calendar is the brain child of Artistic Coordinator Brooke Smith, whose creative vision is unparalleled. Concepts for each month range from 80s pop punk to urban decay to luxury in love. Charity Fashion Show had a lot of fun making each of these ideas come to life, and we want you to see the final results. Once the concepts, models, and clothes courtesy of American Apparel and Wasteland Boutique were selected for each month, the next step was perfecting the details. Finding that perfect accessory that just screamed a certain month seemed to raise all the photos to a different level. For example, adding a Trick or Treat pumpkin basket to the high fashion October shoot made the picture a bit more relatable, if not more fun, too. For the Dark Knight December concept, model Nicole was placed in an alleyway in Palo Alto, allowing her to get more comfortable and into character, which in turn made her more adventurous with her poses. Of course, not everything worked quite so well. For November, Brooke had fantasized about shooting model Lottie with a cat. The cat, however, provided by Future Faces of Fashion intern Mary Lucas, wasn t so keen on the idea, and scrambled off to hide under a dusty stage. Though the other shots were so good the cat ended up being unnecessary, he still furnished the group with a few good laughs. Mary, who called the calendar her first real shoot experience, said that she learned more than she would have imagined, from styling and posing to composition exactly what the Future Faces of Fashion program aims to provide. What s your story? Featuring business specialist Arielle Aryah and model Deanna Basques. We all know that Charity Fashion Show couldn t happen without our dedicated staff and models, and we d like to take this opportunity to give you just a glimpse of the diversity and talent that is the Charity Fashion Show family. The 2010 Calendar features not just a diverse range of creative topics, but a diverse array of models as well, fitting for an organization like Charity Fashion Show. More than anything, the calendar is relatable all the girls are Stanford girls, but at the same time, they are beautiful, confident, and creative women. Name: Arielle Aryah Position: Business Specialist Hometown: Eugene, Oregon Favorite designer: Stefano Pilato for YSL CFS Monthly (M): When did you first become interested in fashion? Arielle (A): I started becoming interested in fashion because of my grandma, who was a fabric designer in NYC when she was younger. M: What are you most looking forward to this year? A: I m really looking forward to the main event! I m so excited to get amazing sponsors on board and to make this year s show even more successful. Most importantly, I hope to raise as much money as possible for this year s beneficiary, to be announced soon. M: What did you do last summer? A: I had a great time working for Marie Claire. I was able to get to know most of the editors, be exposed to beautiful clothes, go on photo shoots and meet amazing people. Perhaps the best part of my summer was having the opportunity to work closely with Fashion Director Nina Garcia. DeAnna (D): Modeling is something I ve always wanted to try but never had the guts to actually go out and do. I auditioned for CFS last year and didn t make it it was a major bummer. But I figured I had nothing to lose by trying again this year, and it s a good thing I did because I made it this time. M: What s the best part about being a part of Charity Fashion Show? D: I ve always heard great things about CFS both the people and the productions they put on. So far the part of CFS that I ve liked most is meeting everyone involved in the show. Each person is unique and they contribute to the awesome dynamic aura that we have. M: What s been unexpected about being a model? Any crazy stories? D: Easy question CFS Walk Offs. I m not creative or crazy enough to make it to quarter finals, let alone semi-finals, but they re pretty fun and funny to watch. It s safer on the sidelines. What s so good? CFS talks about its after-school involvement at the Boys and Girls Club. Most of our time at Charity Fashion Show is spent working directly on the fashion side of things training models, developing relationships with d e s i g n e r s a n d b o u t i q u e s, conceptualizing high end photographs. From day to day, the charity aspect of Charity Fashion Show often slips under the radar. That is why, on Monday afternoons, a contingent of Charity Fashion Show staff slips away from the mansions and glamour of Silicon Valley, across Highway 101 to what is literally and figuratively the other side of the tracks. Earlier this fall, Charity Fashion Show made a commitment to found a fashion club, with the eventual aim of producing an in-house fashion show, at the Menlo Park location of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula. It is to this project that we dedicate our Monday afternoons. Boys and Girls Clubs across the nation provide after-school programs for children from low-income households, and their immediate presence in their communities is immeasurably valuable. One of the things that the Boys and Girls Club aims to do is open the eyes of its members to a world of opportunities, from music making with professional equipment to leadership opportunities to college admissions. This is where Charity Fashion Show comes in. From talks about trendsetting to exercises in design, Charity Fashion Show staff members bring their experience and expertise to the table every Monday afternoon, leaving their lives as Stanford students behind for an afternoon to improve the life of a child. 4 What are you doing next? Models here, models there, models everywhere. Charity Fashion Show is always looking to expand its scope and impact, and one of the key ways in which we do that is by helping our models create independent portfolios and secure work outside of our main event. At a recent Bloomingdale s event, CFS models showcased interview-appropriate attire. Charity Fashion Show has a close working relationship with the Bloomingdale s at Stanford Shopping Center, which has said that they prefer working with us because of our prompt, professional manner. Charity Fashion Show model Unoma Okolo, who opened Helium Magazine s Atomic Fashion Show on , recently participated in a shoot for their next issue, set to be released in early March. And Unoma is certainly not the only one using CFS as a jumping off point for other professional work. In the last six months, multiple models trained by CFS have done i n d e p e n d e n t w o r k w i t h p r o f e s s i o n a l photographers around the Bay Area. Recently, Charity Fashion Show attended the Dish on Fashion at XYZ, produced by Danielle Cohen of Missing Piece. Of the six models walking the latest from the Kittinhawk collection by Allysun Dutra, four were from Charity Fashion Show. Photo credit: Del Geronimo Next on the CFS agenda is a showcase at Trigger, the first annual Freedom Ball, where long-time CFS designer Wayne Hwang will be showing the WDesigns Water collection, featuring both older favorites and some fantastic new pieces. Most of the pieces will be walked by CFS models, many of whom Wayne has worked with extensively in the past. Over the next few months, we ll be developing digital portfolios featuring both professional work and blank slates for a select handful of our models, providing designers with more opportunity to cast the CFS models that best suit their needs. 4

We have brought you new photo and video, an expanded staff, the best models we ve seen yet, a beautiful 2010 calendar, and more. In the coming days and weeks, stay tuned for huge announcements on the designer, sponsor, and partner front as we move forward with making connections for our show. This winter we ll help produce a number of smaller events around San Francisco, including the January WDesigns show, and stretch our legs in the photography department.
