After a long summer of fires and smoky horizons, finally fall is around the corner bringing dynamic cloudy skies to paint, and crisp cool air to enjoy. Our Pastels on High was a resounding success with 79 entries from as far away as: Bavaria, South Carolina, and New Hampshire. Our amazing board, along with several important volunteers like Deborah Hill, who accepted the shipped paintings, and Carolyn Lewis who designed our program, made the show come to life. Dug Waggoner, our juror of selection and judge Gerald Boyd honored us with their expertise. Congratulations to all of our award winners and participants. The September 25 general meeting will be a paint around. Please bring with you a photo to paint, a set of pastels and some paper to work on. Each artist will start a painting and work for about minutes and then everyone will move to another person s painting and add to their piece. We will be working in small groups of four people. This is a really fun activity giving you the opportunity to see how others paint. The results are always a surprise! See you at the September meeting!! Glo.. Gloria Vernon.. President Sierra Pastel Society

3 THE BOARD 2016 Special Events Hostess Alice Mork Public Relations Director Jean Stiles Newsletter Pat Stoddard Aragon Exhibition Director Steve Ellenburg IAPS Liaison Kathy Hall Web Coordinator Jennifer Eubanks Gerald Boyd Portrait Workshop Artists were very fortunate to be able to attend the 2 day pastel workshop given by our POH show judge, Gerald Boyd. The first day he was very thorough with explanations and demonstrations about placing the features.. and setting up the model with correct lighting, etc. Then we all got out our charcoal or pastels and did some drawing. The second day everyone got right into doing their own pastel painting of the model with her bright blue hat and red scarf! Jerry went around to each person and offered helpful hints and advice Deborah Hill set up a wonderful array of fruits and sweets, coffee and tea, for everyone to snack on during the breaks from the easel. Thanks to Kathy Hall and Deborah Hill for planning this great workshop! And THANK YOU JERRY BOYD!! You were very inspiring, helpful and instructive for us who want to learn more about the pastel portrait!...pat Stoddard Aragon.JUST A NOTE:..A few members of the present SPS Board will be stepping down at the end of the year... Some have held their position loyally for many years.. To give these members a rest we need to have some other members step up and replace them! We need some energetic people to carry on..! The positions are: IAPS liaison, Kathy Hall (keeping SPS abreast of IAPS happenings) and Public Relations Director, Jean Stiles (submitting articles to the newspapers and magazines, etc) If you might be interested in either of these positions, you can contact them at their s listed on the left sidebar. ***************************************************** If you hear a voice within you say you cannot paint,..
