I m sure we are all looking forward to doing the snowman. Thanks Bluebonnet Chapter of SDP Celebrating 42 Years Jana for stepping in while Donna and Nancy are in Chicago representing our chapter and the Yellow Rose chapter. 4 Page 4 Art Show ART SHOW!! ART SHOW!! We need your help!! We will be hanging the Art Show on June 11 (Board meeting date) at 10 a.m. Anyone that can help, please come. When coming to help, it would be helpful to bring a hammer. We will also need several ladders. Please bring items for the Art Show to the May meeting if you are unable to help on June 11. Janice Hendricks will receive them and will be happy to store your items until show time. If you are coming to help hang the art show, bring your items then. PLEASE FILL OUT THE FORM BELOW FOR EACH ITEM YOU ARE BRINGING: (if you don t have forms filled out we will have some there and you will have to fill then out the day we hang the show) List your name, phone number (in case we have a question), Title of Painting, medium used, a brief description, and the surface. Also, if you would be willing to sell a piece, the dollar amount. Please number your forms so we will know we haven t missed one of your pieces. Please have your name, medium used and title of your work on the actual piece. This is very helpful when we are labeling the work as well as in getting your pieces back to you. Make sure your pieces are ready to hang hangers and/or wires on them. We need mostly hanging items with a few smaller pieces for the one cabinet in the room. This is a great time to show off your work, represent Bluebonnet Chapter and let the public know about Decorative Painting. Bob Duncan Center has asked if we could leave our work up until July 23 (our Fund Raiser Paint in Day) so we will be on exhibit for 6 weeks instead of the usual 4 weeks. If you cannot make it to the Fund Raiser Day, please make arrangements for someone to pick up your pieces for you. Let s make this our best show ever!! Thanks, Nancy Item # of Total number of pieces Name Phone Title of Painting Brief Description Surface Medium Willing to sell? If so $

5 Page 5 Vice President Workshops & Programs Art Show A big thanks goes to Diana for her workshop on Maureen McNaughton techniques in March. Jana Reynolds will be teaching a darling snowman with Kwick Wood on a Martini glass at the May meeting. She had graciously stepped in to teach in Donna Armstrong s place as Donna will be a the SDP Convention with me. Don t forget to be on the lookout for a metal toaster when antiquing, junking or thrift store shopping for Pat s January project. This is a great conversation piece for any kitchen. What a great gift for someone. I'm looking forward to representing the Bluebonnet Chapter at the Society of Decorative Painters Convention this year at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles Il. Can you believe it, SDP is 43 years old? And I have attended 40 of the conferences? This annual ritual exposes us to diverse painting classes, networking opportunities and a chance to visit the exhibit trade floor for new ideas and cool tools! The Annual business meeting is always informative as they discuss latest Society business. There will be questions asked and answered about SDP's management merger with the Craft and Hobby Association. And we will vote for the 2016 Officers. Wednesday evening I will represent Bluebonnet Chapter at the Chapter and Members gathering., where we will share ideas and learn from one another,. 8 Congratulations Yvonne Lowrie Page 8 YVONNE LOWRIE has been named by the local Girl Scout Council as a WOMAN OF DISTINCTION - LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. There is to be a luncheon at the Fort Worth Club on May 27. It is a fund raiser with cost of $75 ($45 is tax deductible). Mary Helen, maybe Carolyn and former members Annette Parks, Mary Lou Garrison and Joann Nichols will be attending and I would be honored if any others would like to attend. Just let me know as invitations will be mailed in early May. Bluebonnet Member meets the Governor! One of our painting ladies, Sheryl Jones attended Legislative Day 2015 at the Texas State Capital on Thursday, April 16th, From Sheryl: We dressed in RED so people would be able to recognize us. We were recognized from the House and Senate floors, our group that day was over 800 ladies and a few men. A luncheon was hosted by TFRW, we heard from and met Governor Abbott and the First Lady, Mrs. Abbott. The group was given a tour of the home, and had cookies and Masion tea. I was able to get my picture made with the Governor and Mrs. Abbott. Everyone had a great time. Meals on Wheels At the May meeting you will receive your Debbie Mitchell bear packets. They will include four (4) surfaces, a pattern, instructions and a picture. In order to be ready for painting at the July meeting, please seal, sand and put on the pattern. Select your paint colors, using any colors you have. You might even want to paint the back and sides red. I used True Red on mine. Debbie used lots of detail in her painting which is very pretty. My personal opinion is to simplify this project. She used 6 layers of stippling on the bears. My bears are based coated with Honey Brown, shaded with Light cinnamon and hi-lighted with Sand on the tops of ears and muzzle. All the bears have plaid clothes and this is very tedious. My suggestion is to either leave them the base color, dot them or line them. You will need to shade well to divide the areas, but I think it would be easier.as usual you can paint 4 and keep one if you choose. OR...you can paint 8 or 12, if you choose. We have plenty. A couple of samples painted by Donna Armstrong See you in May, Pat

10 Page 10 Ways & Means Fund Raiser Seminar Sign up for our FUNDtastic Fundraiser, a Fun piece you can design and personalize to fit your taste. Jana Reynolds will be teaching a Candy globe dish she designed. Supplies are available at Wal-Mart. You re going to want to make more than One! Date: Thursday July 23 Bob Duncan Community Center - Arlington Time: 10am bring your own lunch Cost: $25.00 Who can come ANYONE! See Janice Hendricks at the May meeting to sign up for the July Fundtastic Fundraiser or send check to: Bluebonnet Ways 'n Means Chairwoman Donna Armstrong 5368 Fox Run Dr Watauga TX armstdl@yahoo.com Candy or Gumball Dish Ladies before you run out and buy your supplies I will have a couple of different designs and sizes for you to see at our next meeting. You may want to see them before you decide on the one I have pictured here. There are several sizes you can choose to make. All you need to do is choose your glass dish and then make sure the terracotta sauce will cup the top of your glass dish and then buy the appropriate pot to go with saucer. 1-8inch glass bubble ball (Wal-Mart price 4.97) 1-6inch terracotta sauce (Wal-Mart price 1.24) 1-6inch terracotta pot (Wal-Mart price 1.24) 1-wood Ball Knob flat on bottom OR 1-drawer knob (make sure the screw is big enough it doesn t fall through hole of sauce. Dot makers Tape Stencils if you choose to use them Carbon Transfer paper Americana paints: Black Irish moss Salem Blue Bright Yellow Baby Blue You will need your regular paint brushes and paint supplies. I can t really say what size brush you may need as it depends on the pattern you put on your piece and the size pots you use. I will furnish glue for your dish in with your packets. It s silly to go buy a large tube of glue when I can buy a pack of four small and put in your packets. Prep: As you choose your designs paint the inside and outside of your pots and saucers with primary color your design calls for. You will need to put at least two coats on. I used black. I also painted the rim on my pot. Transfer pattern.

11 SDP Corner Page 11 Page 11 Jump Start To Certification - A New Category The Certification program has some exciting news to share with our membership. A new level has been added to the Certification program. This new level will help jump start applicants on their way to their Quest for Excellence. The new level titled Accredited Decorative Painter (ADP) is designed as an entry level stepping stone to help members who may be hesitant to enter the Certification program. ADP applicants will have a choice of painting a still life in oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, or colored pencil; or a stroke design in either oil or acrylic only. The applicant may enter one design per judging year. Applicants may start their journey with either the Accredited Decorative Painter (ADP) or the Certified Decorative Artist (CDA) category. Individuals who previously entered into the CDA category, and did not pass, may continue with the Certified Decorative Artist (CDA) category or move into the Accredited Decorative Painter (ADP) category. Applicants who accomplish the Accredited Decorative Painter (ADP) will also need to accomplish the Certified Decorative Artist (CDA) category prior to moving onto the Master Decorative Artist (MDA) category. There are no other changes to the Certification program other than this new addition. JUDGING The Accredited Decorative Painter (ADP) category will not be as challenging as the Certified Decorative Painter (CDA), and will not require the same level of skills in order to pass. The Certification program is a test of skill, not a contest. Applicants are encouraged to resubmit for as many years as needed to receive a passing score. The ADP level is judged at a lower standard than the CDA category. The CDA category is judged at a lower standard than the MDA category. All entries will be judged on overall effect, color management, blending skills, stroke control, value control, intensity control, line-work and detail, background, frame, neatness, and finish. All entries are carefully judged and will receive a personalized critique. BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM Recognition at the annual conference and in The Decorative Painter. Expert advice on how to improve your painting skills from knowledgeable artists in the field of decorative painting. Learning to become an independent and confident artist through trial and error and making your own decisions. Support from other ADP s, CDA s, and MDA s who have gone through this journey with articles in The Decorative Painter and the SDP E-Zines. If you have questions regarding the Certification program you can contact Sue Pruett MDA, the Certification Chair, at (760) or suepruett@artapprenticeonline.com. For information on purchasing the Certification portfolio please contact Cristy Keeton at (316) ext. 114 or cristy@decorativepainters.org. Diana teaching at the March Meeting
