Another successful Ute Show held in Stanhope The weather couldn t have been better for the second annual Stanhope Ute show which was held on Saturday September 23rd at the Stanhope Hotel with 46 utes and over 100 people in attendance on the day. The children enjoyed the Make a Ute and Race it, and the men enjoyed the Mower Races along with all the Ute entrants making the most of the sunshine. The committee would like to thank all the organisations who volunteered their services for the day: Stanhope & District Development Committee, Stanhope Pool Committee, Stanhope Cricket Club, Stanhope Lions Club, along with all our sponsors and donors who helped make our day a profitable and successful event: Stanhope Pub, Kyabram Tyre Service, Bendigo Bank Stanhope Service Centre, Stanhope & District Development Committee, Stanhope & District Men s Shed, Chris Moreland Concrete, Pan O Market. A special thanks to Trevor Gray & Kass Armstrong on enabling us to use the land for this event. All funds raised will go back to the groups who worked on the day.

4 Kates Outback Wedding Kate Armstong being walked down the aisle by her father Rob. Kate was married on September 9th Biomix Pty Ltd growing rapidly Biomix Pty Ltd is Victoria's largest privately operated organic composting business. Our company diverts thousands of tonnes of food and green waste from landfill each month by converting it into premium quality compost that is sold to farming operations for organic farming and also farmers who want to improve their soils and looking to change from conventional farming practices to a more sustainable approach. The Biomix operation is significantly larger in scale than other Victorian competitors, its 200 acre property at Two Tree Road, Stanhope is licensed to handle and recycle 66,000 tonnes of waste and will be looking to increase to 100,000 tonnes in 2018/19. The Biomix operation is supported by on-site infrastructure and specialised technology that enables Biomix to process materials to maturity and generate superior quality compost and soil conditioner products. In 2016/17 Biomix invested $10M to upgrade and expand infrastructure and technology to enable the site to achieve EPA licensing to recycle 66,000 tonnes of green and organic waste. With the completion of works, Biomix will have access to Enclosed Vessel Composting and open windrow technologies that will enable the company to produce an extensive range of tailored superior quality compost product Biomix is driven by people with a passion to help farmers achieve sustainable and profitable outcomes. The company s owners understand that future profit for Victorian and Australian farmers will come from the ability to embrace innovation and the principles of recycled organics to utilize premium grade organic composts and soil conditioners to grow high value, high yield, high quality organic produce to meet increasing demand from consumers for quality organic product and are prepared to pay premium price. Biomix saw the need to assist farmers in the Murray-Goulburn region to overcome chronic problems with depleted soils in order to return to more profitable farming. Biomix is the first privately owned Australian company to develop the capability to meet farmer demand for the supply of mature, premium compost product at large scale. Biomix is very proud to have been nominated one of the finalist in Best Agri Business for GMCU business awards POSITIONS VACANT IN COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM Our Community Emergency Response Team was set up to improve Ambulance response times by having a local group of volunteers to provide a First Response to people when they call 000 but they will always be backed up by an Emergency Ambulance attending as well. It does not replace an Emergency Ambulance attending an Emergency 000 call. Kinder Kids Enjoy Pyjama Party Due to some members retiring and some moving out of the area, we are down to four members on our CERT. This has made it very hard to run a 7 day per week roster. Quite simply, we cannot survive without other community members taking up positions on the team. We will have a town meeting in late October to call for people from the community to put their names down to complete the CERT training in the new year and join the team. WITHOUT NEW MEMBERS, CERT WILL NOT SURVIVE. Alternatively, the town could decide to allow the team to fold and simply wait for an Emergency Ambulance to arrive when they call 000. Please watch out for posters with a date for the meeting in late October and come along. Alternatively, you can call Pauline Keegan on to put your name down. On the last day of term the Kinder kids and Staff look glamorous in their pyjamas after enjoying an early morning breakfast at the kinder. 5 Expressions of interest The Stanhope cricket club is very keen to field at least one junior side for the coming season. For those who aren t aware, there are to be major changes in junior cricket this year.the aim of this is to more closely replicate the game at the top level, increasing enjoyment for players, while increasing participation for all players. Some of the changes include reduced pitch length, boundary size and the number of players per team, while equipment will also be more appropriately sized for children. If you think you would be interested in giving the newly revised junior game a shot, come along to our come and try day. If we are able to field a team(s), we have some fantastic people willing to coach, particularly our English international players, who have plenty of junior coaching experience. Possible grades we d love to fill: All girls cricket: years Under 12 s Under 14 s Under 16 s Contact Matt Evans for more information Mob: SOLD, SOLD, SOLD. Have you noticed almost every Stanhope house for sale in recent months now is showing a SOLD sign instead of a FOR SALE sign. Perhaps with all the development at Fonterra and other activities around Stanhope in the past few months, other people are thinking Stanhope could be a good place to live. Something many of us long term residents have known for a long time. So Welcome to Stanhope. Stanhope Tennis Club Interested in playing tennis this summer? 6 Wrap Up of the Stanhope Community Open Day It was perfect weather on Sunday 17 th September for Fonterra s Community Open Day held at the Stanhope Community Hall. It was a fantastic day of celebration and a great way for us to acknowledge the farmers, staff and community who have supported Fonterra since the 2014 fire. Around 500 people attended the hall to check out the many displays and activities on offer, there was certainly plenty to see and do during the day. Activities for the younger crowd included a jumping castle, balloon animals, face painting, baby animal farm and decoration of the large Stanhope sign. We had cheese tasting and mozzarella stretching, ice cream, coffee, pizza and a gourmet BBQ (thank you CFA and Men s Shed). Hopefully nobody went home hungry!! Stanhope is known as the Town of the Tastiest Cheese, so we were delighted to bring more than 350 people into the plant and show them how we make cheddar and mozzarella. We also appreciate everyone s patience in waiting for their turn to visit the factory the response was overwhelming!! Visitors were offered a copy of the Legendairy Stanhope Mural Proud People Proud Community coffee table book a keepsake for families that features local stories and identities of the Stanhope District. If you didn t receive a copy, additional books are now available from the Stanhope Business Centre. A large photographic print of the mosaic mural was on hand with magnifying glasses available to help locals browse the 18,000 images that make up the Legendairy Mural. People found their faces and photographs in the most unusual locations the middle of the o in Stanhope, at the bottom of the tyre on the milk truck, and even in the eye of the calf. Cont d... 7 A photographic exhibition featured 56 beautiful photographs from the Legendairy Stanhope Mural showcasing the photographic talent of local residents, farmers and Fonterra employees. These photographs depict some of the rich elements that represent our community, natural landscape, the dairy industry and farm life. For those who missed it - you will be able to see a selection of these photographs on display in the Stanhope Arts Hub in October. To round off a wonderful day we had fabulous entertainment from Des and crew who cranked out some awesome tunes over the course of the day. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who assisted us with preparations, volunteered their time on the day, or joined in the celebration.
