1 Incorporated in 2012 under the Associations Incorporation Act Registration No: INC Sloane Crescent Allambie Heights NSW 2100 Phone: artandsoulcollectiveinc@gmail.com Newsletter Volume 2, Number 4 June, July 2013 Cherry s Chit Chat I warmly welcome members and friends to a winter Art & Soul Collective Inc newsletter and wish Art & Soul Collective Inc (A&SC) Happy Birthday!!! I can t believe that the first birthday of the official beginning of A&SC has just passed. On 12 th July 2012, A&SC was registered as an association. This makes me reflect on how quickly this year has passed, and the amazing growth and development of A&SC. I put this inaugural year s success down to the enthusiasm of the members to become involved with A&SC and the generous support of our sponsors and supporters within the community. I would like to thank all our members and the following organisations and businesses for their sponsorship and support over the last year: Warringah Council, Manly Council, Glen Street Theatre, Zelek s Flooring, Rotary Club of Dee-Why- Warringah, Rotary Club of Manly Sunrise, Art Focus Gallery and Studio and Kwik Kopy Printing Frenchs Forest. This support and generosity was instrumental in giving A&SC an energetic start and momentum, which along with the continued energy of the members, will help steer A&SC towards a successful future. Evidence of this continued energy is seen in the arrangement for A&SC members to exhibit at Glen Street Theatre until the end of June Other signs of this energy are the offering of inexpensive studio time in the Cromer Art trial, the acceptance of an A&SC group installation into the first Australian Art in Odd Places event and a new take on en plein air meetings - Spontaneous Art! You can read about these opportunities and developments in this newsletter. It hasn t all been easy driving. There have been a few bumps and pot holes in the path of development for Art & Soul Collective. I have learnt a lot, through my involvement with A&SC this past year, about myself, A&SC Newsletter Vol 2.4 June, July
2 other members and the local art community. Our Annual General Meeting is coming up in September, and all A&SC Committee positions will become vacant. If you want to contribute to A&SC, learn more about yourself and the local art community consider nominating for a position on the A&SC Committee. Your ideas and energy could lead A&SC in a slightly different direction and keep the creative momentum going. Cherry President, Art & Soul Collective Inc. Sculpture news SCULPTURE HOUSE SCHOOL has opened. Australian Bronze - Fine art foundry and Sculpture House has moved to North Head Sanctuary, Manly, from Dee Why. The North Head Sanctuary location has allowed Australian Bronze to expand. In addition to being a fine art foundry there is a Gallery, the Sculpture House School, and Artist Studios. It was a huge success largely due to the generosity of the many artists who contributed, the volunteers, art buyers and school families. Local artist and art educator Vivianne Hazenveld facilitated the creation of a beautiful community artwork on the night of the closing show cocktail party. $15,000 was raised through the event and will be shared between the the P&C, program for school building works and the school bands program. Congratulations to prize winners: A&SC Inc member, Liz Pasqualini s painting Toowoon Bay ($750 People s Choice award); Hanli Jonker s painting Walk With Me (The Packers' Prize of $500 from Vitesse Painting); and Gabi Picard s Henri (Students' Choice Award of $200 framing from Art A&SC Newsletter Vol 2.4 June, July

Above: Two images from the St Ives Show Communal artwork created at the Art 59 Cocktail Party. St Ives Show Maria Romeo assisted in setting up the St Ives Show, held on the third weekend in May. It was a busy week or two in the lead up to the show with registering entries and collating data but it all came together in the end. The judges enjoyed the collection of works in the Art Competition, and there were some very worthy winners, including Leonie Niven with her Water Dragon etching, and Maria Romeo with her steel and wood sculpture Spiralling, which sold during the show. Spiralling, by Maria Romeo Maria Romeo Solo Art Exhibition: I have had my first solo exhibition of photographs and sculptures. Opening night was fabulous at the home gallery of artist Jacki Fewtrell and her husband, councillor Wayne Gobert. It is a very intimate gallery, and perfect for an opening night crowd of around 30 guests. Thanks to all of you who could make it to see the exhibition making it a joyful experience for me, and thanks also to the wonderful buyers that made it a financial success.
