Fertilizer ws inorported into the soil t depth of 3 4 inhes y ultivtion. Hemp seed ws plnted using the Mundell Modified Soyen Plot Plnter t rte of 3 ls/a. Seeding depth ws lirted to.25 inh. No dditionl pestiides or irrigtion were used for the durtion of the studies. Grin ws hrvested when seed heds ontined ~75% rown mture seed. Stlks were ut t the se of the flower using hnd pruners from two, independent 1m 2 su plots from within eh min plot, reful to void plot edges. Hrvested flowers were pled in pper gs nd ir dried. One dried, grin ws thrshed from hrvested flowers y hnd nd susequently

2 lened y mnul sreening to determine dry grin yields. The remining stlks fter grin hrvests were lso hrvested from the sme su plots using hndheld sikle mower nd ir dried. Dt olleted from stlks were plnt popultions, strw yields mesured s dry weight (DW), stlk heights, nd stlk dimeters t the se. All dt were nlyzed using the ANOVA proedure of SAS 9.4 (SAS Institute, Cry, NC). Mens were seprted y Fisher s Proteted LSD (α=.5) where the min effet of vriety ws signifint. Results The 2 June plnting ws destroyed t Quiksnd due to extreme preipittion very soon fter seeding. Additionl rop filures resulted in either vriety deletions nd/or inomplete dt olletion mong plnting dtes nd t oth lotions. ANOVA sttistis for eh suessful plnting dte t eh lotion re provided in Tle 2. Wether nd photoperiod dt re presented for oth lotions in Appendix 1. Dt re presented in Figures 1 3 for the My, June nd July plntings, respetively. 7 Conlusions The My plnting dte ws most suessful t oth lotions. Severe weed pressure (not quntified) ws experiened whih ws the leding use of rop filures mong the vrieties plnted. Weed pressure ws high t oth lotions. Bird pressure ws lso expeted t oth lotions, hene, nylon ird netting rriers were onstruted round trils to prevent ird predtion of hemp grin. As result of nturl pressures, only four vrieties were hrvested for the My plnting dte t Spindletop nd six t Quiksnd (Fig. 1). Signifint differenes in plnt popultion density were oserved t the Spindletop lotion ut not Quiksnd (Fig. 1A). Dry grin yields were reltively poor t the Spindletop lotion (Fig. 1B). In ontrst, CHY nd Bilorzeskie yielded fvorle mounts of grin t Quiksnd with 1,68 nd 966 ls/a, respetively. CHY lso hd signifintly higher strw DW yields ompred to ll other vrieties ut with very tll stems nd lrge stlk dimeters (Figs. 1C E). Two U.S. sed vrieties, NWG 331 nd NWG 452, performed well in terms of grin yield t the Quiksnd lotion. The entire dul purpose June plnting ws destroyed t Quiksnd due to extreme rin very soon fter seeding. Severe weed pressure t Spindletop redued dt olletion to three vrieties: CFX 2, CRS 1, nd Felin 32 (Fig. 2). Ultimtely, dt nlyses determined tht the erly June plnting dte ws n jet filure with negligile grin yields nd strw DW yields (with the exeption of Felin 32 with moderte 5,18 ls/a DW) (Figs. 5B,C). Plnt heights were not signifintly different. The July plnting dte hd four hrvested entries t the Spindletop lotion nd one t the Quiksnd lotion, mostly due to extreme weed pressure t oth lotions. There were no signifint differenes mong vrieties onsidering popultion density in the July plnting dte (rnge thousnd plnts/a) (Fig. 3A). Men grin yields t Spindletop were signifintly different (P<.5), ut onsidering the extreme oeffiient of vrition (v = 43.94), firm onlusions re not pproprite. CHY yielded the highest men dry grin with 1,36 ls/a with NWG 452 nd Bilorzeskie performing modertely t 614 nd 578 ls/a, respetively (Fig. 6B). CHY lso produed signifintly higher strw DW yields ompred to ll other vrieties followed y NWG 331 nd NWG 452. (Fig. 6C). CHY yielded n extrordinry mount of grin t Quiksnd from the July plnting; 2127 pounds/a, ut n verge mount of dry stems, 5544 pounds/a. Continued vrietl evlutions re n solute neessity to define the most pproprite genotypes for Kentuky frmers. Anedotlly, produers reported some suesses growing vrieties in 217 nd in entrl Kentuky tht filed t oth lotions in these trils. It is noted tht mong those vrieties tht filed t oth lotions, reprodutive growth ppered reltively soon fter plnting thus reduing or prohiiting nopy losure vi neessry vegettive growth.
