It is more commo i the older populatio ad occurs sporadically, but youger patiets below 40 years of age with oset of symptoms ad heredo-familial cases are also see. Typically the disease affects a perso s movemet; the movemets become slower (also kow as Bradykiesia), ad maifest as lack of facial expressio, mootoous speech, lack of arm swig durig walkig, small steps ad a shufflig gait, ad difficulty with rapid alteratig movemet. Tremor at rest is a commo feature. It usually starts i oe limb ad progresses to ivolve other limbs over time ad it is ofte exacerbated whe the patiet is ervous or distracted. Rigidity is preset as stiffess of the limbs ad body. Patiets ofte complai of body aches ad ted to adopt a stooped posture with bet kees. Parkiso's Disease also affects more tha just movemet ad muscles. Patiets could lose their sese of smell, get costipatio, feel a frequet urge to uriate, ad some might develop sleep related problems such as talkig ad gesturig i sleep. It provides a platform for patiets ad families to meet together to share kowledge ad to fight the disease. The participats gather oce a moth with the support of voluteer health care providers from various fields. Activities that have bee carried out durig the gatherigs iclude Tai Chi exercises, physiotherapy, fall prevetio exercises ad lectures regardig Parkiso medicatios. I the past, Kaul was held as a religious ceremoy to appease the spirits of the sea, lad, forest ad farm makig it the most importat festival i the Melaau traditioal caleder. I 1974, whe I left Kuchig to go to Christchurch for uiversity, I ever for oce imagied that I would ed up spedig a major chuk of my life i Osaka, Japa. I met my husbad, Graeme, i my first year i Christchurch. He had just retured from Japa after spedig 2 years studyig there ad was preparig to go back log term. To cut a log story short, we got married as soo as I graduated. But the we decided to go back to Kuchig first for a period of time. We eded up stayig for 5 years. Those were some of the happiest years of our lives. We produced the first gradchild for my parets much to their delight ad durig that time Graeme got to really kow ad love Kuchig the people, the culture ad the food. Now he's as much of a Kuchigite as I am! It was 1984 before we fially made the move to Osaka. I will ever forget my first impressios of this fasciatig city. Crowds of people everywhere like you oly have i Kuchig durig festivals. For the first time i my life, I felt like a coutry bumpki! I could't speak Japaese but because I look Japaese people would jabber at me i Japaese all the time. It sure helped me to lear fast you either sik or swim! My Dotobori, Osaka first experiece of eatig sushi was a blast! We were take to this exquisite sushi restaurat ad my eyes early popped out whe I saw the plate placed i frot of me praw, squid, fish eggs, sea urchis, octopus, shellfish, all RAW. Like a good guest, I dutifully popped the first piece of sushi i my mouth ad it felt like a bomb had exploded i my head! My itroductio to wasabi (horseradish). Raisig 3 kids i Japa has both bee a joy ad a challege. I missed the support of gradparets. Whe the kids were little it was hard to get a break from cookig. I Kuchig we could always pop home for dier or eat out. Not here. Livig i a tiy apartmet, the so-called Japaese "rabbit hutch", was also stressful, especially i the witer. It was a joy to sed our kids to the local school. Through that we made lots of frieds i the eighborhood. Our secod so eded up marryig the girl ext door ad we ow have 2 gorgeous half Japaese gradkids! I have ofte bee asked, "If you had the choice, all thigs beig equal, where would you live?" Obviously Osaka is where our hearts are at this poit i time. But, hey, I'm hagig o to my Malaysia passport! Chef Goh believes that the stayig power of youg chefs to achieve their goal i this trade is ofte spoilt by the lack of commitmet. He feels that it is oly through exposure from other chefs ad cultures that oe ca improve ad raise the level of culiary techique ad skills. This he hopes for his so. Customers have chaged i their way of diig i these past 20 years. They eat less ad are more health coscious. Where we used to have 11 course meals, we oly have 8 course meals today. Quality ad ot quatity is what is sought after. Comparig tastebuds betwee West Malaysia ad East Malaysia, Chef Goh remarked "a big differece i the saltiess of the dishes. I Sarawak, we ted to put a lot less salt but the tred to add sugar has icreased. We are 4 to 5 years behid West Malaysia i our culiary skills, perhaps agai, because of the lack of exposure.
