1 Научни трудове на ПУ, Animalia Год./An. Том/Vol. Кн./Fasc. c./pp. Trav. Sci. Univ. Plovdiv, Animalia THE LEAF BEETLES (INSECTA: COLEOPTERA: CHRYSOMELIDAE) OF THE SREDNA GORA MOUNTAINS (BULGARIA). FAUNA AND ZOOGEOGRAPHY Blagoy A. Gruev Department of Zoology, Universitry of Plovdiv, Tzar Assen 24, BG-4000 Plovdiv, Bulgaria Abstract. Faunistic and zoogeographic data about 220 species and subspecies established in Sredna Gora Mountains are given. Key words: Insecta, Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Sredna Gora Mountains, Bulgaria, faunistic data, zoogeographic classification Introduction Sredna Gora Mountains (Ihtimanska [excl. Lozenska], Sashtinska and Sarnena) have not been specially investigated with respect to Chrysomelidae. The present work summarized all the faunistic data about the family taxa from the literature and from new findings. Newly recorded to the fauna of Sredna Gora Mountain herein are 55 taxa, and new distributional data for other 11 species are given. By now 220 species and subspecies have been established in the studied area (Orsodacninae 1, Zeugophorinae 1, Donaciinae 4, Criocerinae 5, Clytrinae 20, Cryptocephalinae 25, Eumolpinae 4, Chrysomelinae 43, Galerucinae 14, Alticinae 87, Hispinae 1, Cassidinae 15). Their zoogeographical belongings are given in the faunistic list by the use of abbreviations at the end of each taxon distributional data. The number of the known taxa in Sredna Gora Mountains constitutes only 41 % of the Bulgarian leaf beetles. After purpusefully researches it will undoubtedly increase to a great extent. Fifty three taxa are herein newly recorded to the fauna of Sredna Gora Mountains. Acknowledgements. I deeply thank Dr. VASSIL TOMOV of the University of Plovdiv who kindly placed his materials of Orsodacninae, Zeugophorinae, Donaciinae, Criocerinae, Clytrinae, Cryptocephalinae and Galerucinae (identified by him) at my disposal. 77
